This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

Too bad the greatest comics have to use drugs for new material, This guy and Prior and Belushi were comic genius. They all had to fight for the last laugh, sorry you had to leave us in the middle of our show.

Very, very sad news, i'll always remember him for his Hippy Dippy Weatherman, jumbo shrimp and those 7 words. I'm so glad he stayed around as long as he did, now a whole new generation was able to enjoy his unique comedy.

Say it ain't so George, say it ain't so...
You spoke to us, made fun of us and were part of us, but you somehow always maintained your individuality and made
us think...stoned or straight...you or us...you made us think!
Say it ain't so George...please.

That is terrible news! George was by far the funniest comedian of all time! He spoke what most people believed but were too afraid to speak their mind. He put a lot of things into perspective for my husband and I. He will be greatly missed and forever loved.

A guy with such an immature work record and still manages to get to the top in his field is hardly anti-establishment...he was chosen by the powers that be to do just what he did...ruin many innocent lives by pushing dope....pot is a made up word to disguise an evil substance..and so he is now in the tender clutchs of the boss he worked so hard for...wonder if he knows any asbestos jokes...Nino

    Freed,
Why are all the comments starting with #2? Where's all the #1's? Are they gone like George Carlin. That's what he was. A #1. Now who do we turn to when the world gets so bleak that only a knee-slapping, side splitting humorist can bring us out of our funk?

    Ahhhhhhh............Lewis Black!

We 1st saw him live on our honeymoon in 1976. He kept his edge & made us think in a different direction . he was asking questions we would only think to ourselves. He will be missed and honored more now than anytime he was alive. He would find it ironic!

George Carlin's unique humor left me in stitches. He will be missed.
I still remember buying my first George Carlin album.
It was the Seven Dirty Words.
As soon as my father discovered my purchase, he promptly took me back to our local TG&Y store to return it and give the manager a tongue lashing for selling this to a minor. Even though I was humiliated & grounded for more than a week-- It was so worth it!
Many, many years later I was able to see him perform in person. He never disappointed.

You mean to the SUN! He had always stated that he prays to the SUN, not GOD. He worships something that he knows is there, was there, and still is there. Something he can see. Everytime I look into the sky, I will see George looking down on this place. When there is light from the SUN, I know George is watching.

He was funny in the early years, and very creative in all his performances.
He unfortunately went over the edge in his "God" bashing.
I went to one live show in Vegas, I left halfway through.
Its a sad thing imagining how surprised he'll be when he arrives at his eternity
and finds that he'll get no laughs.

I received the email below from a friend when George Carlin's wife passed away...he shared this food for thought.

It seems appropriate to consider his thoughts again.

A wonderful Message by George Carlin:

The paradox of our time in history is that we have taller buildings but shorter tempers, wider Freeways , but narrower viewpoints. We spend more, but have less, we buy more, but enjoy less. We have bigger houses and smaller families, more conveniences, but less time. We have more degrees but less sense, more knowledge, but less judgment, more experts, yet more problems, more medicine, but less wellness.

We drink too much, smoke too much, spend too recklessly, laugh too little, drive too fast, get too angry, stay up too late, get up too tired, read too little, watch TV too much, and pray too seldom.
We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values. We talk too much, love too seldom, and hate too often.

We've learned how to make a living, but not a life. We've added years to life not life to years. We've been all the way to the moon and back, but have trouble crossing the street to meet a new neighbor. We conquered outer space but not inner space. We've done larger things, but not better things.

We've cleaned up the air, but polluted the soul. We've conquered the atom, but not our prejudice. We write more, but learn less. We plan more, but accomplish less. We've learned to rush, but not to wait. We build more computers to hold more information, to produce more copies than ever, but we communicate less and less.

These are the times of fast foods and slow digestion, big men and small character, steep profits and shallow relationships. These are the days of two incomes but more divorce, fancier houses, but broken homes. These are days of quick trips, disposable diapers, throwaway morality, one night stands, overweight bodies, and pills that do everything from cheer, to quiet, to kill. It is a time when there is much in the showroom window and nothing in the stockroom. A time when technology can bring this letter to you, and a time when you can choose either to share this insight, or to just hit delete...

Remember; spend some time with your loved ones, because they are not going to be around forever.

Remember, say a kind word to someone who looks up to you in awe, because that little person soon will grow up and leave your side.

Remember, to give a warm hug to the one next to you, because that is the only treasure you can give with your heart and it doesn't cost a cent.

Remember, to say, 'I love you' to your partner and your loved ones, but most of all mean it. A kiss and an embrace will mend hurt when it comes from deep inside of you.

Remember to hold hands and cherish the moment for someday that person will not be there again.

Give time to love, give time to speak! And give time to share the precious thoughts in your mind.

                AND ALWAYS REMEMBER:

Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.

If you don't send this to at least 8 people....Who cares?

George Carlin It's not what you gather, but what you scatter that tells what kind of life you have lived

Cloud nine gets all the publicity, but cloud eight actually is cheaper, less crowded, and has a better view.

I'm always relieved when someone is delivering a eulogy and I realize I'm listening to it.

Most of the time people feel okay. Probably it's because at the moment they're not actually dying.

Sorry, but you've been misled. George Carlin never wrote any such thing. Google "Paradox of Our Age" for more information.

I don't think the real George Carlin could have written that without engaging in an "involuntary personal protein spill".

One of the more embarrassing items making the internet/e-mail rounds is a sappy load of @!$%# called "The Paradox of Our Time." The main problem I have with it is that as true as some of the expressed sentiments may be, who really gives a @!$%#? Certainly not me.

I figured out years ago that the human species is totally @!$%#ed and has been for a long time. I also know that the sick, media-consumer culture in America continues to make this so-called problem worse. But the trick, folks, is not to give a @!$%#. Like me. I really don't care. I stopped worrying about all this temporal bull@!$%# a long time ago. It's meaningless. (See the preface of "Braindroppings.")

Another problem I have with "Paradox" is that the ideas are all expressed in a sort of pseudo-spiritual, New-Age-y, "Gee-whiz-can't-we-do-better-than-this" tone of voice. It's not only bad prose and poetry, it's weak philosophy. I hope I never sound like that.

Just for the record that was written by George and posted on his website. George's insight into the american state of being will be missed

I have just about everything George ever did. I'm 62 and I have adored George through all his ups and downs. He never cheated us. He was a master word-smith. He always had a message. In his bit "Feminist Blow job" he wasn't anti-women; he was anti-anyone who tried to control language (thought) and most of all took themselves to serious. Remember how it's okay to say I "pricked my finger" but wrong to say "I fingered my prick". If their is a definition for "outside the box" it will always be George Carlin. Whether it's his bits on "Baby Boomers" (that's us) or "Capital Punishment" he always made me laugh my ass off; but much more than that...he made me think. When I die, and if their is a comedy club I wanna be there. Think about it. George C. Richard P. Lenny B. and the MC? "Take my wife...please. Good- bye George

Appreciate your post, and I'm sure that you meant well, but Carlin did not write this. See snopes.com ().The following is a quote from Snopes:

Thanks to a tip from one of our readers, we have found the original author, however.
It is minister, author, and former pastor of Overlake Christian Church in Redmond, Washington.
In a response to an inquiry by TruthOrFiction.com, Dr. Moorehead said he wrote it in 1990.
It was later published in 1995 in his book WORDS APTLY SPOKEN.

I think Dr. Moorehead deserves his rightful credit for this piece.
                              Eric Labuda

George Carlin lived the life of a rebel to establishment, and many people are going to miss ho, There is a somewhat of a rebel in every one of us. But he could have used his talents in more wise way. He did not regard his Maker, and often ridiculed those who do. He knows NOW what's most important thing in this life. I hope that somehow before he died he humbled himself before God and asked for forgiveness. People really need to think about eternity. This life is like drop in the ocean comparing to forever.
